DELHI — District Attorney Shawn Smith and the Delaware County District Attorney’s office want to recognize Deputy Lucas Elmore of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for his dedicated service to Delaware County.

Deputy Lucas Elmore started his career with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in March of 2021, after completing training at the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy. Deputy Elmore excels in traffic interdiction and impaired driving enforcement.  

In March of 2024, Deputy Elmore completed Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement training (ARIDE). In November of 2024, Deputy Elmore also completed certification as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). DRE Training is among the most difficult trainings for police officers. It requires an intense 2-week portion, which Deputy Elmore completed in Oriskany, New York and then a field validation portion, which Deputy Elmore completed in Philadelphia, PA. Currently there are approximately 432 Police Officers/Deputy Sheriff’s in New York State who are certified Drug Recognition Expert’s according to the NY State Governors Traffic Safety Committee. 

In April of 2025 Deputy Elmore was honored with the prestigious New York State Mothers against Drunk Driving Recognition of Excellence Award for his outstanding contributions to combat drunk and impaired driving by the Albany Capital Center located in Albany, New York.

District Attorney Smith stated, “I love working with Deputy Elmore on his cases. He always does a comprehensive and thorough investigation on any case he handles. He is always available to testify or assist with anything we need.”
