Michael Kudish talk on Vegetation Changes from Pre-European Settlement to Today

The Jefferson Historical Society will host Dr. Michael Kudish of the Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve in Stamford for a presentation titled “Regional Vegetation Changes from Pre-European Settlement to Today.”

Dr. Kudish will explore how the region’s vegetation has changed over time, including the effects of Native American land management, fire, agriculture, and other human activities on the landscape.

Dr. Kudish taught in the Division of Forestry at Paul Smith’s College and has spent decades studying forest and vegetation history. He has written four books about Adirondack vegetation, as well as numerous articles on forest history in both the Adirondacks and Catskills. His extensive research has traced the history of regional forests back thousands of years.

The Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve in Stamford promotes environmental conservation, scientific research, and long-term sustainability.

This program is sponsored by Richard Herodes, a Jefferson native and member of the Jefferson Central School Class of 1955.

This event is at Judd Hall, 163 Main Street, Jefferson on Saturday October 10th at 2pm. It is free and open to the public.
