Sugarville is the Mountaintop’s New Sweet Spot

TANNERSVILLE — There is a new kind of magic on the mountaintop, and it smells like fresh waffles and cotton candy.

Sugarville, the new family-owned dessert bar at 5941 in Tannersville (Main St), officially opened its doors this year — EST. 2026 on the menu card — and it’s already drawing customers all the way from Albany.

It’s run by husband-and-wife team Serg and Alina Yeutushenko. Serg is a Tannersville native, Hunter-Tannersville Class of 2002, who went on to study industrial design at Coventry University in England. Alina works as an international trade specialist, but at home she was always the baker — cakes, pastries, anything sweet.

“I loved the area as it reminded me of where I grew up in Western Ukraine, with its climate, its mountains and its rivers,” Serg said. A sportsman at heart, he said he was also drawn back by all the athletic amenities the mountain town has to offer.

We were saying that every time we would be setting up Birthdays for our children, we would do them in themes with over the top decor, in order for the kids to completely immerse into the whole experience of that birthday theme, Serg said,

That living-room tradition became the shop’s whole ethos, which they’ve written into their own lore by basing their own children off of the stores mascots "Chip" and "Sweetie".

The shop has already hosted its first big test — a birthday party for the family of a local who Serg went to school with on the mountaintop — with what the duo mentioned with glaring success. The Yeutushenkos say they want to do more of them.

“It was a blast, something for the children on the mountaintop,” Serg said. Future events will include balloon animals and other family-friendly acts.

What’s on the menu right now:

Bubble waffles— the trendy Hong Kong-style egg waffles served in a cup, Italian gelato sourced directly from Torino, Italy, with unlimited toppings — fresh strawberries, syrup, gumballs, whipped cream and more — a full café with coffee, tea and hot chocolate, milkshakes, and affogato — gelato drizzled in espresso.

The showstopper is the cotton candy machine, which makes it fresh in front of you using a robotic arm that carves the cotton candy into playful shapes like a flower or the traditional cloud, in a color of the guest’s choosing.

Crepes are coming next.

“It’s all about quality,” Alina said. “It is niche but tasty.” She noted that even though the gelato and coffee are imported from Torino, they priced everything for locals.

Serg handled the design, and it shows. The space is colorful and whimsical, living up to Tannersville’s moniker as the Painted Village in the Sky. Serg said nothing is more painted than Sugarville. Even the door handles are custom-made ice cream cones, handmade in Ukraine. Outside, there’s seating with multicolored chairs and peak views of the mountains.

Serg says it’s as much about enjoying sweets as it is an experience.

Sugarville is open daily from 12-8. You can follow them on Facebook and Instagram.

If you go, say hi to Chip and Sweetie and tell them the Mountain Eagle sent you.
