Sunday Drive Route 28 in Delhi Series 20260522

DELHI — This Edition of the #SundayDrive Series Takes Us Through Delhi

The pace slows a bit on Sundays traveling north on Rt. 28 into Delhi. On this summer-like weekend, the transition from sprinkles of snow to bright sunshine and warm temperatures on Main Street echoed with waves of motorcycles passing by. Teenagers gathered for ice cream as the 90-degree weather encouraged people to spend the day outside.

Delhi appeared to be preparing for Memorial Day weekend with the giant banner reading, “Hello Neighbor ~ Delhi! ~ Welcome Stranger To the Friendly Little Town On 28 & 10.” It is that time of year when snowbirds return north and visitors help liven things up across Delaware County.

Heading up Elk Creek Road is always a joyful experience. Keeping with the easy pace and watching for farm vehicles along the way, it was a pleasure running into Tyler Hymers, an eleventh-generation farmer, moving an old tractor tire for a raised garden bed. He was excited to share that the Hymers Farm Market store will soon be coming to Delhi.

Clayton Rockefeller of Creek Side Acres graciously welcomed me onto his property to capture a few photos of his elaborately decorated barns. This stretch of road continues the tradition of down-to-earth people and farming culture that has defined upstate New York for centuries.

Cows, sheep, and all kinds of wild critters decorate the landscape. One of the more memorable moments came from spotting frogs gathered together in a nearby pond, appearing to give each other group hugs.

Taking a pause and soaking in the natural surroundings on a busy weekend felt necessary on this Sunday.
