David Avitabile was born in Astoria, New York the son of Frank and Daisy Avitabile and educated at Long Island City High School and New York University. He has been a journalist since May, 1986 on various weekly and daily newspapers in New York City and New York State.
He has lived in Middleburgh since September 1989. He has three children, Matthew, Michael, and Maria and a three-legged cat Tres.
In addition to writing and taking photos for the Mountain Eagle, he works in visitor services at the Baseball Hall of Fame. He has been a lifelong Mets fan.
